The
Kolubara River runs trough the Valjevo Valley, along the regulated
riverbed, bridged over by several bridges. |
. |
| The Kolubara River divides the town into parts, or rather, it links the two parts of the same town into one urban whole. On the right bank of the river there is the old part of the town called Teshnjar, while the new, modern town is developing on its left bank. |
| Teshnjar , the old part of the town, which have been revitalized, is situated on the right bank of the Kolubara River, between the river and the hill to the south of the valley. The word "Teshnjar" used to mean a narrow street. Thanks to the carefully planned reconstruction, Teshnjar is bustling with different activities, as in old oriental times. |
A beautiful town with its wide streets and modern buildings is developing on the left bank of the Kolubara River. |
The old buildings, a testimony of the rich past of the settlement on the Kolubara River, are in harmony with the modern ones. One of those old buildings is the oldest preserved building in Valjevo. It is Muselim's Lodgings. |
The fact that oldest building in Valjevo is only a little more than 200 years old is the evidence of the turbulent events which have often changed the look of the Valjevo Valley during the 6 centuries of its existence. |
Apart from the Lodgings, a lot of other old buildings from different periods have been fitted into the town centre. One of them is the Nenadovićs' Tower, built in 1813. |
In addition to those old buildings built in a traditional style, new, carefully designed buildings were built in the second half of the 19th century. |
| A lot of monuments were built among the old and new buildings. |
| Numerous
monuments are a testimony to the glorious past of the townspeople |
| If
one starts a walk from the south part of the town centre, really
pleasant places - ideal for relaxing and recreation can be reached
not far away from town (The river Gradac, the hill Vidrak, Pecina
park). |
